Laser Compatibility
Our acrylics are fully validated for CO₂ laser cutting and engraving and are engineered to deliver clean cuts, consistent engraving depth, and reliable edge quality.
Diode Laser Compatibility
We have now successfully tested selected 2.5mm and 3mm Clear Cut acrylic sheets on a 10W xTool diode laser and can confirm that certain colours are diode laser friendly.
Diode-friendly acrylics are available in our dedicated Diode Friendly Collection and are clearly marked on the relevant product listings.
Important: Diode settings vary
Diode laser cutting requires different settings from CO₂ laser cutting. During testing, our acrylics required high power, slow cutting speeds and multiple passes.
However, there is no single setting that will work for every machine or every colour.
Results can vary depending on:
-
Diode laser brand and wattage
-
Laser focus and condition
-
Cutting speed
-
Power settings
-
Number of passes
-
Air assist
-
Acrylic colour and finish
We strongly recommend performing a small test cut before starting your project. Each colour may require different settings, even when using the same laser.
The diode testing referenced by Clear Cut was performed using a 10W xTool diode laser. Results on other machines may differ, and Clear Cut cannot guarantee identical cutting results across all diode laser systems.
Not all colours have been tested
Our diode testing is ongoing. Only acrylics specifically identified as "Diode Friendly" have been tested and confirmed by us.
If a colour is not currently listed in our Diode Friendly Collection, diode compatibility has not yet been confirmed by Clear Cut.
We will continue testing additional colours and updating our Diode Friendly Collection as results become available.
For the most consistent and reliable results across our acrylic range, we continue to recommend CO₂ laser systems.
Material Specifications
Our acrylic sheets are manufactured for precision cutting, engraving, and creative fabrication applications.
Material type: Cast acrylic
Finish options: Clear, opaque, glitter, mirrored, specialty finishes (range dependent)
Thickness tolerance: Industry-standard tolerances suitable for laser processing
Protective film: Supplied with a protective plastic layer or paper masking on one or both sides (product dependent)
All materials are selected to ensure:
-
Consistent laser response
-
Smooth polished edges after cutting
-
Reliable engraving contrast
-
Structural stability for layered designs and craft applications
Detailed specifications for individual products are listed on their respective product pages.
Care & Handling
To maintain the quality and finish of your acrylics, we recommend the following:
-
Leave the protective film on during cutting and handling where possible
-
Store flat in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight
-
Avoid contact with harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners
-
Clean using a soft microfiber cloth and mild soap solution if required
For laser cutting, ensure appropriate ventilation and standard laser safety practices are followed at all times.
Proper care will preserve clarity, surface finish, and overall material performance.
